AQI 2019: ‘disappointing’ lack of improvement in audit quality

The Financial Reporting Council has made a scathing attack on the quality of UK audit in the latest 2019 Audit Quality Inspections reports, with one in four audits inspected requiring significant improvement. Sara White reports

Despite attempts to raise the standard of audit and the profession facing severe criticism over a number of high profile audit failures over the past 12 months, 25% of audits inspected were rated as below standard, and required improvements, with six audits singled out as requiring ‘significant improvements’, having failed to meet even the basic standard expected.
