A former postal worker has admitted failing to declare his earnings from an online beauty product business, after an HMRC investigation found he owed over £10,000 in income tax and national insurance contributions

At Preston Crown Court Kamram Saghir admitted being knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of income tax and failing to pay NICs. The court was told he neglected to pay a total of £10,771 between April 2011 and June 2014.

The court was told that in addition to working for Royal Mail, Saghir set up an online business selling cosmetics such as hair products and make-up via e-Bay.

HMRC’s investigation found that over a three-year period he had made a total of 5,794 sales resulting in a turnover of some £210,000 and profit of £43,000.

In an interview Saghir said his hobby became an obsession. He was given a five-month jail sentence suspended for 12 months, and is understood to have been made redundant from the Royal Mail some time ago.
