Chancellor plans megafund overhaul of local authority pensions

In a bid to release billions from local authority pension funds, the Chancellor is planning radical reform to consolidate fragmented pots into up to six megafunds

Up to £80bn of investments could be released through the move the Chancellor claims, with more details set to be laid out at tonight’s Mansion House speech.

The radical reforms, which will be introduced through a new Pension Schemes Bill next year, will create megafunds through consolidating defined contribution schemes and pooling assets from the 86 separate Local Government Pension Scheme authorities.
