As part of an overhaul of the Civil Service, McFadden is also looking to shift government roles out of London to cut costs.

As well as reducing the size of the Civil Service, the government wants to increase the number of people who are ‘data and digitally skilled’ as there ‘are not enough at the moment’, McFadden told the BBC.

However, there are no figures yet on how many staff face potential redundancy or job loss, but the total full time workforce has ballooned since before the pandemic.
