Ken Clarke, the business shadow secretary, has clarified reports of his doubt over George Osborne's inheritance tax plans.
In a statement released today, Clarke said: 'So far as I am concerned, we are fully committed to raising the threshold for Inheritance Tax... as George Osborne has promised. This measure will appear in the manifesto and I support it. We also all agree that George Osborne cannot write his first Budget until we have seen what we have inherited. I cannot see any significant difference between what I have said and what my colleagues have said.'
The statement follows reports of confusion around the Tory's inheritance tax plan set by George Osborne as part of their manifesto.
In an interview with the BBC, Clarke had said that implementing the plan was not their first priority and what is is 'what do we do with this mountain of debt?'
Osborne's plan to remove all but millionaires from paying the inheritance tax was met with a response by the shadow business secretary who said the tax was an 'aspiration because inheritance tax hasn't moved in line with inflation'.
