HMRC handled over 6,000 vulnerable taxpayer enquiries

Voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations which offer frontline support to individuals with their tax affairs, including tax credit queries and problems with tax debt, refer over 6,000 people to the HMRC extra support team annually

The latest research shows that there are low levels of trust in HMRC advisers with vulnerable taxpayers preferring to approach a third party, independent body for help with their tax problems, while there was low awareness that HMRC had a specialist team specifically dedicated to supporting these taxpayers.
