KPMG quits £1.3m P&O Ferries audit over late filing issues

Big Four firm KPMG resigned as auditor of P&O Ferries and parent company after continued major delays to filing annual accounts

The annual accounts for P&O Ferries Limited and its parent company P&O Ferries Division Holdings Limited for year end 31 December 2023 were due to be filed by 30 September 2024 but both sets of accounts are now seven months late, leaving KPMG in an untenable position.

Peter Hebblethwaite, CEO and director of P&O Ferries, and the holding company, stated in the FY22 annual report, signed on 12 February 2025, that ‘the auditor KPMG are deemed to be reappointed’.

However, within less than three months KPMG had resigned the audit contract.
