Notts County has had an unwelcome early Christmas present, with news the High Court is due to hear a winding up order against the country's oldest professional team from HMRC on December 19
The Magpies, currently ranked at 19th in League Two, have already had a winding up petition brought by HMRC dismissed in May, after a tax debt to HMRC was settled at the last minute. They were also issued with winding-up orders in 2010 and 2013, before both cases were dismissed after the debts were paid by the club.
In a statement to supporters put out on the club’s website at the weekend, chief executive Jason Turner said: ‘I know this will be a frustration to you all, but I am unable to provide you with detailed information on the current financial situation at the club. However, I am assured that our current debt to HMRC will be settled ahead of the scheduled court date.
‘Certain matters are quite simply outside my control, however I am pleased to report that in many ways it has been another very productive month behind the scenes at Meadow Lane.’
Notts County is up for sale by chairman and owner Ray Trew but a buyer has yet to be found.
