Osborne to launch tax 'counter-attack'

Shadow chancellor George Osborne will today launch a counter-attack against a 'tax con' of short-term tax cuts by Gordon Brown. The Conservatives fear that Brown is using the recession to create a toxic financial legacy for David Cameron and his cabinet to step into after a 2010 election, according to the Financial Times. Concern has also been raised by the Tories that Brown is luring voters with short-term solutions and tax giveaways that could leave the Conservatives having to introduce higher taxes and restricted spending choices in their manifesto. Debates have been raging over Brown's decision to borrow more in a bail-out plan for the UK. In a speech to the London School of Economics, Osborne will warn that Brown's concept of 'borrowing without limit' that he 'appears to be making' will hit taxpayers in the medium term.
