Parental leave overhaul planned by government

Changes to parental leave are under review as the government mulls options to simplify the complicated system and potentially increase pay rates

As part of the government’s Plan for Change, it has launched a consultation and call for evidence into maternity, paternity and adoption leave, ‘aiming to set out and test the objectives for the parental leave and pay system, and to seek input and evidence to further our understanding of the impacts of the current system’.

The initial consultation is kicking off an 18-month long review period.
