The study, Mindful Exclusion – Part 1: Agenda, published by the Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland and the Centre for Synchronous Leadership (CSL) is the first of a three-part series that investigates boardroom dynamics and composition.
The research focused on exclusion within the boardroom setting and highlighted the problems that arise when boards and executive committees are not mindful of the impact of exclusion.
The report says that prior to covid-19, many boards and executive committees failed to engage with the unfamiliar, such as emerging trends, social issues and hiring from non-traditional backgrounds, these boards were classed as ‘bubble bound’.
Those who were surveyed from the ‘bubble bound’ businesses were asked before the pandemic which issues rarely or never made the agenda, 83% said climate change, 73% innovation, 71% diversity and inclusion, 79% talent management, 63% employee well-being, and 61% digital and technology.
