There was mass uproar after Rachel Reeves announced the changes to winter fuel payments earlier this year, but now the Scottish government have turned their back on the Chancellor’s decision

From 2025 pensioners in Scotland will receive a winter fuel payment of at least £100, those qualifying for additional benefits such as pension credit will receive between £200 to £300, and the payment will be limited to one per household.

Shirley-Anne Somerville, social justice secretary for the Scottish government, said: ‘After careful consideration I am announcing to parliament that ahead of next winter I will bring forward regulations to introduce a universal pension age winter heating payment in winter 25/26 for every single Scottish pensioner.
