Serial fraudster jailed over £2m scam

A man from Surrey who worked in banking has been jailed for six years and nine months for more than 30 counts of fraud

Rajesh Ghedia of Addlestone defrauded multiple insurance and pension companies out of over £1.3m by feigning that he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer and less than a year to live, while he pretended to be head of trading to dupe people into investing in phantom investment schemes, discovered following investigations by City of London Police’s fraud teams.

Ghedia was employed by a bank as program lead in the global technology and operations department, a support role in which he had no authority to offer financial advice or investment opportunities to existing or potential clients.
