The Fair Tax campaign has announced the speakers for its June conference, when leaders from FTSE 100 companies, MPs, economists and tax campaigners will debate tax transparency
Speakers include Meg Hillier, chair of the Public Accounts Committee, Rachel McEwan, director of sustainability at SSE, the first FTSE 100 company to be accredited the Fair Tax Mark, and Michael Jacobs, director of the IPPR Commission on Economic Justice, and previously member of the Council of Economic Advisers at the Treasury, and special adviser to the prime minister.
They will be joined by Alex Cobham, chief executive of the Tax Justice Network, Maggie Murphy, senior global advocacy manager at Transparency International, and Richard Murphy, professor of practice in international political economy at City University, London and director of Tax Research UK.
The event will be held in London on 7 June and will mark the opening of the UK’s first Fair Tax Fortnight, designed to showcase those companies and organisations that have committed to pay their fair share of corporation tax and to explore the positive contribution this makes to society.
Delegates from business, academia, politics and campaigning will explore topics such as responsible tax planning, how to tackle tax avoidance and the case for corporation tax. There will also be a range of engaging workshops that will provide access to cutting-edge practitioners and thought-leaders.
