Many younger accountants in the 18 to 34 age range are choosing to be their own boss instead of working for an accountancy firm or in business, while women are more likely than men to take this route, revealed research by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).

The AAT figures showed that the number of accountancy firms opened by under 34 years olds has shot up by 755% in the last seven years. Back in 2018 only 119 practices were run by under 34s, today this has increased to 1,018.
