Tax advisers and NGO and charity tax campaigners have been called to give evidence at a hearing before the House of Lords economic affairs committee on corporation tax.
As part of the committee's review of corporation tax, it has called a hearing with tax heads from some of the Big Four accountancy firms on the future development of corporation tax in a global economy.
The hearing is scheduled for 21 May 2013 at 15.35 in committee room 1.
First to give evidence are the accountants with Bill Dodwell, head of tax policy, Deloitte; Chris Sanger, global head of tax policy, Ernst & Young; Richard Collier, tax partner, PWC and Adam Broke, tax specialist, Mercer & Hole.
This will be followed at 16.15 with evidence from Richard Murphy, director, Tax Research LLP; Mike Lewis, tax justice policy advisor at Action Aid; Alex Prats, principal economic justice advisor to Christian Aid; and Richard Brooks, journalist and former tax inspector.
The Lords review is considering whether the existing system of taxing corporate profits is effective and what proportion of total tax receipts should come from corporation tax.
It is also probing whether taxation of companies is too narrowly focused on a complex definition of profits and is the consequences of shifting the corporate tax base from profit to sales/turnover. Profit shifting and transfer pricing will also be reviewed as part of the committee's work.
On a more general level, it is reviewing whether corporation tax affects decisions by firms to incorporate, where to locate, how much to invest, how to finance activities and where to record profits.
