Trump agrees UK-US trade deal with ‘cherished allies’

The US and UK have signed a groundbreaking trade deal which will see the auto sector protected from some tariffs, announcing the decision at a joint press conference

Announcing the trade deal, president Trump stressed the importance of the trade deal and the fact it was being signed on VE Day in the UK and Victory Day in the US.

Trump said this was an important deal with our ‘cherished allies’, adding that further details would be ironed out over the next few weeks

He added that ‘the UK is the sixth largest economy in the world and the 4th largest we export to’.

Trump said: ‘The agreement with the UK is a full and comprehensive one that will cement the relationship between the US and the UK for many years to come.

‘Because of our long-time history and allegiance together, it is a great honour to have the United Kingdom as our first announcement. Many other deals, which are in serious stages of negotiation, to follow.’
