In the latest move to bring business back to the US, the creative industries are the president’s new target, a potentially very damaging move for the sector.

The UK film and high end TV production sector is valued at £5.6bn in 2024, but 87% of film production in this country is attributed to spend by US studios, TV networks and streamers, according to figures released by MPs on the parliamentary Culture, Sports and Media Committee and British Film Industry. However, the government shelled out an estimated £2.2bn in 2023-24 on film and tax breaks with high end TV one of the biggest beneficiaries.

Now this sector is under serious threat as the US tariff war focuses on films produced outside the country.
