94% of UK accountants lack confidence in economy

Majority worried about economic outlook, citing lack of growth, high employment taxes and continuing dissatisfaction with HMRC service levels as major concerns

An overwhelming 94% of accountants are concerned about the state of the economy, saying they are not optimistic above the future, with two-thirds (64%) stating the economic outlook was negative. Only 6% of respondents said they were ‘optimistic about the economy’, revealed ACCA survey to gauge the temperature in the run-up to the Budget next month.

The greatest challenges were employment taxes (60%), spiralling costs (25%) and red tape (13%), ACCA said.
