An accountant is turning her back on the world of audits and spreadsheets in a bold bid to fulfill her dreams and train for a career on the stage.

Marie Wilson has thrown caution to the wind after securing a place at London's Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts.

The 31-year-old, who spends nearly all her spare time pursuing her love for theatre in numerous amateur dramatic productions in her native city of Norwich, will soon be heading to the big smoke in September to take up her place at the school which boasts Dame Judi Dench as president.

ACCA-qualified Wilson, who earned herself a first class degree in applied accountancy, currently works for LEES Accountants in Norwich.

'I'm working right up until the Friday before I start college on the following Monday because I'll need the money,' said Wilson. 'But I'm really excited and just a little nervous. I just had to follow my dream. I didn't want to get to the age of 50 and regret not taking this opportunity.'

She confessed that her parents are still somewhat dubious about her turning her back on such a solid career.

'I think they're a bit worried, but life's too short to never take risks.'

It was while studying a part-time musical theatre course in London that she realised just how much she wanted to follow her dream and tread the boards of the world's most famous stages.

Wilson needs to raise around £24,000 to pay for her course fees and living expenses for the year. To raise money, she is putting on a one-off concert overflowing with famous musical theatre songs.
