Arrests made in 'unprecedented' Moby Dick VAT fraud

A series of raids across Europe have resulted in the arrests of over 40 people involved in a multimillion euro tax evasion scheme using carousel fraud with dozens of luxury cars and yachts seized

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) is leading the investigation into a €520m (£433m) carousel VAT fraud, code-named Moby Dick, which has 'heavy involvement of several mafia groups'.

The EPPO offices in Milan and Palermo executed detention orders against 43 suspects. During the raids on Wednesday, 160 searches were carried by police forces in more than 10 countries, involving hundreds of police officers.
