Auditors must improve quality of audit work, says FRC

Audit firms need to ensure they are delivering high quality audit including critical assessment, management challenge and strong leadership, says the audit regulator

The publication of a detailed assessment of the key attributes of an effective audit comes after the latest round of FRC audit quality inspection reports found that 30% of audits fell below the standards expected and required significant improvements.

This follows a series of corporate failures where auditors were implicated over the quality of audits and questions were raised about their adherence to audit standards, including the cases of Patisserie Valerie, Thomas Cook and Carillion.
