Baby loss awareness week and employee rights to leave

Stacie Cheadle, technical writer at Croner, looks at the different types of leave available to employees experiencing baby loss, and plans to extend eligibility

Baby Loss Awareness Week, observed annually from 9 to 15 October, is a time to recognise the experiences of those affected by it. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness of relevant support available, highlighting the importance of breaking the silence surrounding pregnancy and baby loss.

It encourages individuals and organisations to create environments where grief can be acknowledged and supported. For employers, this week serves as a reminder to evaluate and enhance workplace policies, ensuring they align with statutory requirements and offer meaningful support to employees during one of the most challenging times in their lives.
