Chancellor freezes rail season ticket prices

Cost of season tickets, peak returns and off-peak returns between major cities frozen until March 2027

Ahead of a crunch Budget on 26 November, the chancellor has frozen the annual rail price increase scheduled for next spring in a bid to deliver ‘real savings for millions of commuters’.

Normally fares go up every year like delays and leaves on the line. The last time rail fares were increased was in March 2025, going up 4.6%, which was based on the usual measure of the July rate of the retail price index (RPI) plus 1%.

Affected fares include season tickets, day singles and returns, and off-peak returns between major cities.
