Cooper Parry swaps private equity backer for US firm

Private equity group Waterland has sold its stake in Cooper Parry to US based Lee Equity Partners to drive growth at the acquisitive Top 30 accountancy firm

The value of the deal was not disclosed but Cooper Parry said the transaction involved a majority investment from funds managed by Lee Equity Partners, LLC and marks its first offshore investment outside of the US and Canada.

Lee Equity will take over the majority stake held by Dutch based Waterland Private Equity, which invested around £100m in the business in July 2022.

Backing from Waterland financed a string of acquisitions as Cooper Parry’s revenues is expected to hit £180m in FY25, putting it firmly in the Top 20 UK firms. This is a massive growth in three years from £50m at year end 2021. Over the last three years, organic growth has exceeded 24% annually driven by M&A. Year end figures for 31 March 24 showed annual revenues of £120m, up from £52.9m in FY23.
