Banking giant Goldman Sachs in throes of major overhaul of finance team using AI agents developed by Anthropic to automate accounting and compliance work

Goldman Sachs has been working with a team of engineers from Anthropic, the Microsoft-backed AI developer, to automate accounting roles for the past six months. The new accounting approach uses AI agents to handle accounting for trades and transactions, and in client vetting and onboarding.

Marco Argenti, chief information officer at Goldman Sachs said the process was still in the ‘early stages’ and expects the agents to officially launch ‘soon’.

Posting on LinkedIn, Jonathan Pelosi, head of financial services at Anthropic, said the AI tool started with ‘trade accounting and client onboarding, the two of the most complex, high volume workflows in financial services’.

Pelosi said: ‘Think of it as a digital co-worker for scaled, process-intensive functions across the firm.
