Covid-19: partners’ future under spotlight during crisis

As the Big Four and other large practices cut pay and furlough staff, Kingsley Napley’s employment partner Richard Fox sets out what partners should do if they face a cull

In a startling opening to a recent edition of current affairs programme Newsnight, presenter Emily Maitlis began with the words: ‘They tell us coronavirus is a great leveller. It’s not. It’s much harder if you’re poor.’

Before too long, we may begin to see similar fracturing in the community of large accountancy practices. At present the Big Four (Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC) and other major firms are all distributing similar messages, very much giving the impression that everyone is in this together.
