Curaçao bank did not know about £220m VAT fraud, rules Court

Curaçao bank and former owner director have won a case against a team of liquidators after High Court rules they did not know UK based clients were involved in missing trader VAT fraud

This case centred around a claim brought by the liquidators of Transworld Payment Solutions UK Limited (TWPS), against First Curaçao International Bank (FCIB) and the bank’s director and founder, John Deuss, who was also the ultimate beneficial owner of TWPS.

At the High Court the judge, Mr Justice Leech, dismissed in their entirety claims by the liquidator of TWPS, who was also liquidator of a number of the companies which had been involved in missing trader intra community (MTIC) fraud, throwing out the claims alleging dishonest assistance and other intentional wrongdoing against the Curaçao bank and its owner director that provided bank account services.
