Divorce and the impact on LLP partnerships

Divorce is a stressful and challenging time, and no more so for partners in accountancy firms where partnership finances can come under the spotlight in settlement agreements, explains William Robert-Phelps, senior associate at Broadfield

There is much made of the impact of divorce on the home, relationships with children, and even mental and physical health. However, an often hidden consequence is the impact divorce can have on managing the heavy workload that comes with being a partner in an accountancy firm and the relationship with fellow partners.

That relationship can be stretched further when divorcing parties are unable to reach agreement on finances, meaning partnership finances and partner earnings can find themselves under the spotlight and even in the full glare of the courts.
