The move could see a monetary fee for individuals looking to take their employers to the employment tribunal and is under review by the Treasury, in a bid to shore up funding at the Ministry of Justice.

The government is revisiting plans to reintroduce fees, which were in place until a Supreme Court ruling in 2017 which found the fees were unlawful and had a ‘chilling effect’ on individuals pursuing claims.

The fees were introduced in 2013 to address concerns about frivolous and nuisance claims being brought at the cost of the public purse, and to improve the efficiency of the tribunal system.
