Grant Shapps to head up revamped energy department

The Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has restructured four government departments with a shake-up of the business department as he prioritises energy stability

Grant Shapps (pictured) will head up the new Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, responsible for ‘securing long-term energy supply, bringing down bills and halving inflation’. Shapps moves from the old Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), which is being broken up as a result of the restructure.

A combined Department for Business and Trade, headed up by Kemi Badenoch as secretary of state for business and trade, will support growth by backing British businesses at home and abroad, promoting investment and free trade. In a sense, this reverts back to the situation before the Department for Trade and Industry was disbanded in a reorganisation in 2007.
