HMRC allows LLPs to register partner SA and NICs on one schedule

HMRC has agreed to accept single submissions from either a nominated partner or registered agent to register ten or more partners for self assessment and national insurance contributions (NICs) as long as the information is submitted on a schedule in a speficied spreadsheet format

This means that partnerships will not have to complete individual forms SA401 and SA402 for each partner. There are, however, strict rules for the format of the schedules and failure to adhere to the rules will result in the application being rejected and returned.

Agents wishing to register as the partnership’s agent will need to send HMRC form 64-8 ‘Authorising your agent’ with the schedule.

The spreadsheets must be sent in paper form to:

National Insurance Contributions & Employer Office
Self Employment and Self Assessment Registrations
Benton Park View
Newcastle
NE98 1ZZ

There are four different spreadsheets covering:

  • partnerships consisting of UK resident individuals;
  • British Venture Capital Association (BVCA) partnerships consisting of UK residents who are not individuals for self-assessment (such as companies and partnerships);
  • partnerships consisting of non-UK resident individuals; and
  • partnerships consisting of non-residents who are not individuals for self-assessment.
