HMRC has launched an online forms service to allow whistleblowers to report information on pay and work rights, but the information requested in order to proceed and the advice given by HMRC contradicts itself
On HMRC’s website it states ‘you don’t have to give your name or any other details to complete the form’. However, to visit the form for individuals, HMRC requests a name, national insurance number and date of birth to confirm the individual so they can determine what questions to ask.
When on this particular page under the heading ‘Get help using this service’ HMRC warns: ‘Don’t include any personal or financial information. For example, your national insurance or credit card numbers.’ This could cause a lot of confusion for people trying to understand what information they should enter and where.
The individuals form is for people who have concerns about and to submit information on the national minimum wage, employment agencies, gangmasters and working hours.
HMRC already provided a separate form for people to submit a complaint on behalf of someone else.
The form for third party information asks for details on the case, the individual and the employer involved and the third party’s personal information.
Once the form is completed it should be emailed back to HMRC on [email protected].
HMRC has currently removed the page for the time being whilst they resolve the problem.
