HMRC to withdraw 0845 helpline numbers

HMRC has announced that it will be closing the 0845 helpline numbers from December 2014 and all calls thereafter will need to be made using 03 numbers

All HMRC helplines now have 03 numbers, which are cheaper to call according to the tax authority, although the gov.uk pricing guidance states that 0845 numbers vary in price from 1p to 12p per minute for landlines and from 5p to 40p from mobiles.

The new 03 numbers cost up to 9p per minute and from 8p to 40p per minute from mobiles.

The 0845 numbers will now be available only as a transitional measure.

From late August, those using 0845 helpline numbers will be informed that the line will be closing, but their calls will still be handled as normal.

In December 2014, those continuing to use an 0845 number will be told the line is closed and given the relevant 03 number which they should then use.
