HRMC invested in 45k devices for remote working

HMRC has bought 45,704 devices since October 2019 including 37,624 laptops, tablets, and phones in the last 12 months alone

Data from a Freedom of Information (FOI) request revealed that new devices used by the tax authority had surged by 366% this year, when compared to the same period for last year.

The figure rose from 8,080 in October to September 2020, to 37,624 in October to September 2021. In comparison, HMRC only recorded an increase of 600 new devices in the period from October 2018 to September 2019.

The data showed that mobile phones were the most popular device to be handed out to staff, with 27,000 given out between October to September 2021 compared to just 6,800 in the same period in 2020. This is an increase of 297%.
