Johnston Carmichael hires first non-executive directors

In a first for Johnston Carmichael, the Scottish firm strengthens audit governance team with appointment of two independent non-executive directors

Les Clifford and Michael Timar have decades of experience working in the profession, and both were partners at Big Four firms before their recent retirements from EY and PwC respectively.

They are the first non-executive directors to be appointed by the firm, which was founded almost 90 years ago, and the move follows a strong period of growth with the audit team now working with more of the top 100 SMEs in Scotland than any other accountancy firm.

Johnston Carmichael reported annual fee income of £67.9m for year end May 2023, ranking the firm in the top 30 UK firms and it is part of the Moore group.

Clifford, a former global client service partner at EY, has more than 40 years’ accountancy experience and will become chair of the firm’s newly constituted audit board.
