Deloitte North West Europe has promoted 136 new partners, with 54 new partners in the UK. Deloitte North West Europe, which came into effect from 1 June 2017, is a combination of Deloitte’s Belgian, Dutch, Nordics, Swiss, and UK firms, with Ireland joining on 1 June 2018. The promotions take the total number of partners across the newly combined firm to approximately 2,300 and over 35,000 employees in total. Of the 54 partners promoted in the UK, 11 (20%) are women. Overall 19% of Deloitte’s partners are women, an increase from 14% in 2014. This year 9% of new partners are BAME, compared with 5% of all Deloitte partners. The number of UK partners overall now stands at 1,034. The firm’s audit and risk advisory business has promoted 17 partners, with 14 in consulting, 13 in tax, and 10 in financial advisory. A fifth of promotions (13) overall are based outside London.

BDO has promoted 14 partners across its tax, audit and advisory teams. The firm has promoted seven people in its audit practice: Joe Aswani, Arbinder Chatwal, Matt Crane, Charles Ellis, Andrew Radford, Louise Sayers and Chris Young. In the tax team, Cory Blackmore, Andrew Crossman, Richard Dalton, Brad Payne and Steve Talbot have been promoted. Within the advisory team, Iain Nettleton, who specialises in complex international projects, and Duncan Berry, who heads up BDODrive Solutions in Guildford, have also been named new partners.

Paul Smethurst, forensic accountant and corporate investigation specialist, has joined Menzies. Smethurst trained with a Big Four firm and has worked in both the UK and North America. He has been engaged to assist clients operating across a diverse range of business sectors, usually in connection with high profile/high value matters. He was previously partner and head of forensics at Carter Backer Winter and has particular expertise in financial services investigation and litigation and has experience giving evidence in court, arbitration and other formal proceedings.

RSM has appointed Andy Nalliah as director in its personal insolvency practice in Hull. Nalliah has relocated from RSM’s restructuring team in the East Midlands to work alongside Alec Pillmoor to support a growing number of personal insolvency clients and help to grow the insolvency offering within the North and nationally. He has over nine years’ experience acting for distressed mid-market, owner managed businesses and individuals. He now specialises in formal insolvency planning including advising individuals and partnerships and acting as a trustee in bankruptcy. The firm has also appointed Sehjal Gupta as an associate director in its private client team in London. Gupta, who is both FCA and CTA qualified, joins RSM from Lancaster Knox, prior to which she spent 12 years at Rawlinson & Hunter. In her new role, shel will provide advisory and tax planning work, predominantly for high net worth individuals and non-UK domiciled clients.

Milsted Langdon has re-appointed a former trainee as a director. Robert Rawle joins the firm as general practice director with more than 20 years' experience. Rawle, who previously worked at the firm's office in Taunton during the 1990s, held the position as a director and head of media and creative industries at Bishop Fleming in Bristol, before deciding to return to Milsted Langdon.

Steven Swientozielskyj FCMA, CGMA, will serve as the 85th president of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) after being elected for a one-year term. As president, he is responsible for overseeing the global governance of CIMA, and promoting management accounting. He is also deputy chairman of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA). Previously he was director at Network Rail and the NHS.

IAPA has appointed Ozgur Demirdoven as CEO. Demirdoven is managing partner of IAPA member firm MED YMM ve Bagimsiz Denetim A.S in turkey. He replace Martin Clapson who has been CEO for 18 months.
