Career news this week includes ICAEW awards Little Prize in memory of Accountancy editor, appointment of audit director at Bishop Fleming, UHY Hacker Young makes eight promotions and announces a new partner, BTG hires chair of audit committee

The ICAEW has awarded the Little Prize to FiscalReps’ client specialist, Alessia Mecozzi in recognition of achieving first place globally in the Business Planning Taxation paper in June 2016. The Little Prize was established by ICAEW to preserve the memory of Leo T Little, editor of Accountancy for over 20 years. All of this year’s prizes will be presented by the President of ICAEW at the International ACA Prize Giving Ceremony at Chartered Accountants’ Hall in April 2017.

Bishop Fleming has appointed Nathan Coughlin as audit director at the Plymouth office. Coughlin has 20 years’ experience in the audit profession with clients such as owner-managed businesses and large corporates. He has previously worked in senior management at Pwc.

UHY Hacker Young has made seven promotions in its audit and accounts team. Alex Hoctor and Daniel Grant-Hunter have been promoted to audit seniors, Nicola Cottee, Daniel Waymont and Rebekah Harrison have been promoted to audit supervisors and Julie Parry has been promoted to audit and accounts manager. UHY Hacker Young has also promoted David Allum to director at their Nottingham office. Allum joined as an audit senior in 2002 before he reached management level in 2005 and has 13 years’ experience in audit.

Along with the promotions, UHY Hacker Young, has announced Chris Smith as a new partner in its London office. Smith was previously audit partner for Barnes Roffe LLP and audit senior manager in the London middle markets team at KPMG for 13 years.

A specialist healthcare company, BTG, has appointed Graham Hetherington as chair of the audit committee, effective from 1 August 2016. Hetherington joins from Shire where he was chief financial officer from June 2008 to February 2014. He is also a Fellow of CIMA. He replaces Giles Kerr who has been chair for nine years but will remain on the board.

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has appointed Fernando Restoy as chair of the Financial Stability Institute (FSI). His appointment takes effect on 1 January 2017 and is for a five-year term. His appointment fills the vacancy being created by the retirement of Josef Tošovský, who has chaired the FSI since 2000. Restoy is currently deputy governor of the Bank of Spain, a position he has held since 2012.
