Only released last year, ex accounts office manager, Ann Jones who was locked up after stealing £122,000 from Jim Dorricott Construction Ltd, has been sentenced to a further 12 months after a previous employer detected fraudulent activity.

The latest case at Shrewsbury Crown Court involved a £76,000 fraud conducted over an eight-year period from 2004 to 2012.

The issue came to light when her old employer, manufacturing firm CV Rollers discovered Jones had been convicted of stealing money from her latest recent employer.

At Shrewsbury Crown Court last week, the prosecutor said Jones had manipulated the pay system and inflated invoices to suppliers and paid herself the difference. She also wrote herself company cheques and used the money to support her son.

She also exaggerated her hours of work so she would get paid more.

Jones admitted two counts of fraud between 2004 and 2012 when working for CV Rollers.

First sentence

Jones was first sentenced for fraud for two years and eight months in May 2018 when she worked at Jim Dorricott Construction Ltd. She transferred £84,000 through false invoices to a company owned by her husband through their joint bank account.

The prosecution accepted that the husband had no knowledge of the fraud.

She claimed that her son Craig Smith, coerced her into committing these crimes as he had alcohol and drug problems.

Some of the money was given to her son also admitted to £38,000 acquired in criminal property.

Jones also used £7,300 for personal purchases, transferred £25,000 to the account of Smith as wages and transferred a further £13,000 to another account named Smith.

The court heard that director of the construction firm, Shaun Dorricott saw the name ‘C Smith’ on the payroll and did not recognise it.

Jones was sentenced to two years and eight months for stealing from the construction company and Craig Smith was jailed for 10 months for acquiring criminal property.

For the most recent case involving CV Rollers, Jones faces a proceeds of crime hearing at a later date.
