Public sector contractors given access to 80% furlough scheme

IR35 contractors working for public sector organisations through personal service companies who are unable to carry on working due to the covid-19 pandemic will now be eligible for the 80% furlough scheme if their contracts are ongoing, reports Sara White

This means that nurses and doctors working as locums across the NHS, and IT contractors working on strategic IT projects, for example, will be able to access financial support, although there are still no signs that the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme - so-called 80% furlough rules - will be extended to private sector off-payroll workers.

The scheme is being coordinated by the Crown Commercial Service, which is working with all relevant CCS and NHS Workforce Alliance Framework suppliers and industry bodies.
