SEISS update: third self-employed grant now available

As the third Self Employment Income Support Scheme goes live, Croner-i tax writer Stephen Relf ACA CTA unpicks the latest guidance from HMRC, warning of important differences with earlier grants

In late September, the government announced that a key source of Covid-19 funding for the self employed, the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS), would be extended to include a third and a fourth grant. Initially, the third grant was set at 20% of the person’s average trade profits but, in a series of announcements made over the course of two weeks, the government significantly increased the amount of support to 80%.

The online portal for applying for the third grant opened on 30 November.
