Use equity to replace bad loans

As banks gear up to agree a code of conduct for collecting coronavirus debts, Cavendish Corporate Finance senior partner Lord Leigh urges the government to create an independent equity financing mechanism to help SMEs at risk of default

Early in July, it was announced that the trade association for the UK banking and financial services sector, UK Finance, and the state-owned British Business Bank (BBB) had started to explore establishing a debt-collection code of conduct to guide commercial lenders pursuing small- and medium-sized businesses struggling to repay their UK government-backed coronavirus loans.
