Woking Council admits to ‘systemic failings’ over finances

In a heated meeting at Woking Council last night, Grant Thornton auditors were questioned about how they reached a finding of ‘potentially unlawful transactions’ over disastrous investments

When asked by newly appointed councillor, Tom Bonsundy-O’Bryan exactly why the auditor stated in its latest public interest report that it had identified ‘potentially unlawful transactions’, a Grant Thornton representative said: ‘It is very clear that the council did not follow the rules, but it is not clear if they are unlawful.’

The lack of clarity about the financial affairs of the Council is due to auditors Grant Thornton, and the council members, not being able to determine whether something is illegal until it has been determined so in a court of law.
