The small audit market remains strangled by hugely complex audit standards, designed for large businesses and continues to squeeze smaller audit firms out of the market.

The Financial Reporting Council has now acknowledged there may be a need to consider whether to introduce the global audit standard for Less Complex Entities, although it has resisted this for years, despite calls from the top professional bodies including ICAEW.
