Newly established Fair Work Agency combines remit of HMRC, employment agency standards and enforcement of national minimum wage, new sick pay rules, and more

The Fair Work Agency (FWA) was established in April 2026 and combines the remit of several separate enforcement bodies including HMRC, as well as taking on state enforcement for new areas like holiday pay and statutory sick pay (SSP).

One of the first actions of the Fair Work Agency (FWA) will be to address the scale of work-related legal violations in the UK. This is critical in light of the findings of a major research report produced by the former Office of the Director of Labour Market Enforcement (ODLME), which is now folded into the new Fair Work Agency.
