75% of businesses give nothing to charity

Charitable giving by businesses has dropped to £4.26bn in the last year, but a third of companies admitted they ‘didn’t really consider it’

Corporate giving by FTSE 100 companies alone was £1.82bn in 2024, while total charitable donations from business amounted to £4.26bn. Even the smallest companies donated £206m, with £2.2bn from the wider business community, revealed the latest figures from the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).

While billions were given to charity by business, a shocking 75% of companies did not do any charitable work.

One in three said they ‘didn’t really consider it’ while nearly as many (28%) said that giving was ‘not a priority at the moment’ and 23% did not have enough budget.

But for the largest businesses, charitable giving is extremely important, with top FTSE donor pharma giant GSK (GlaxoSmithKline) giving £363m, amounting to 19.6% of total corporate donations and representing 5% of its profits.
