Accountancy firms commit to reverse nature loss

UK accountancy bodies ICAEW and ICAS have signed up to support the Nature is Everyone’s Business initiative to signal the important role accountancy plays in deforestation

ICAEW and ICAS have joined forces with eight global accountancy institutes as part of the Global Accounting Alliance (GAA) to support the initiative.

The joint statement, signed by the 10 chief executives from countries such as New Zealand, Japan, Germany, and Canada, calls on professional accountants to act now to reverse the process of nature loss by helping the organisations they work with to ‘protect, restore and promote the sustainability of natural resources’.

The call to action involves ‘advocating for and supporting the protection and restoration of nature’ through finance activities and investment decisions made by the business community and requires the accountancy bodies to work with governments to ‘establish and align coherent policy frameworks that accelerate business action to reverse the process of nature loss’.
