Accountant banned after impersonating ex-employer

An accountant has been banned from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) after he used a friend to impersonate his former employer to gain a reference

Talha Sohail, from Bury Greater Manchester, was given the ban by the ACCA disciplinary committee on 13 April 2022 after the professional body described his actions as ‘deliberate and dishonest’ and that he ‘failed to act with integrity’.

Sohail, who had been a member of ACCA since 2013, was also ordered to pay the cost of the hearing totalling £7,154.50, however this was reduced to £3,500 due to Sohail’s financial situation.

Sohail was a senior accountant at MacMahon Leggate Chartered Accountants in Burnley but was dismissed from the firm in October 2020.
