A website that compares accountants' fees has been launched this week with already more than 17,000 hits and a growing interest from accountants looking to add their services to its database on daily basis. Tom Bishop, ex-management accountant and founder of www.accountantsquoteme.co.uk, started the project in October last year after being 'astonished' at the fees being charged by some accountants. The site will create further stiff competition for accountants as their rates will be scrutinised against their competitors. Bishop told Accountancy: ' It will benefit [customers] as it will give them the option to choose accountants based on prices as price variation between accountants is significant and the thing is, when you receive an accountancy bill, the question is, how do you know if you're being charged fairly?' He continued: 'You probably would need to be an accountant to know whether or not you're being charged a fair price for the work and know how good the work has been, so this is a really good opportunity for people to actually compare the market.'
