New Year Honours have been awarded to senior professionals in the accountancy sector as it emerges from a turbulent year for the finance world. Among those to receive gongs are ex-Financial Reporting Council chief executive Paul Boyle, who was awarded an OBE for his services to the Financial Services Industry and Accountancy. Gillian Thompson, the former chief executive of Accountant in Bankruptcy at the Scottish executive was also given an OBE. Among those to receive CBEs were Ian Luder, a former partner at Grant Thornton and previous Lord mayor of the City of London; Lowri Alice Khan, leader of the Treasury's intervention strategy and markets team; and Ann Beasley, director of finance and performance, national offender management service, at the Ministry of Justice. Helen Kilpatrick, the director-general of finance and commercial at the Home Office was awarded the Order of the Bath in this year's list, while Mike Wareing, the former International CEO of KPMG was awarded the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) for his work chairing the Basra Development Commission and for his services generally working for the economic reconstruction and redevelopment of Iraq. He retired from KPMG in September last year, and is now a non-executive on the audit committee of Wolseley, the supplier of heating and plumbing products.
